Beneficiaries: Children of the women who live and work in a local open-air market. 80 of these children from the market and the surrounding community receive food assistance, education support and annual health check ups. Food is sourced from a farmers group in Kindia, a rural area 70 miles from Conakry. The project benefit local women farmers making business under the fair trade model.
Volunteer history: In 2018, family member and 2022 SOSA Honorable Mention, Sonia Carolina Lopez Torres, established a feeding program for over 80 children in a low-income neighborhood in Conakry with members of the Embassy community. Volunteers worked with host government, partnering with a local NGO and local businesses, founded a business to fund the activities, and training local employees. **SOSA= AAFSW's Secretary of State Award for Outstanding Volunteerism Abroad.
