The Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training (ADST) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501c3 organization that has conducted and published over 2,600 oral history interview transcripts of former diplomats on its website. It is the world’s largest diplomatic oral history collection. ADST’s collection is a unique and priceless historical record of post-World War II U.S. diplomacy, praised by scholars, educators, and diplomatic practitioners alike. Our mission is to capture, preserve, and share the experiences of America’s diplomats. ADST is committed to strengthening public appreciation of diplomacy’s contribution to America’s national interests, and enriching the professional knowledge of diplomatic practitioners. Volunteer history: As a small non-profit organization, ADST welcomes and relies on volunteers to assist us in our mission of “capturing, preserving, and sharing the experiences of America’s diplomats.” Since 1986, ADST has operated with a combination of volunteer oral history interviewers, volunteer editors, and volunteer writers for Table of Contents (TOC). We also have a long-standing student internship program. Volunteer opportunities include: Volunteer Program Coordinator, Editing oral history interview transcripts, Conducting oral history interviews, Assisting with interview recording, Creating tables of contents for transcribed interviews, Updating our Country & International Organizations Reader series, Website support, Special events support, Educational outreach, Grant writing and Development support. Please include a brief description of what type of volunteer work you are looking to do, your qualifications, as well as the amount of time you are willing to commit. You do not have to be located in the Washington, D.C. area to volunteer. Foreign Affairs employees, retirees and family members have volunteered with ADST in the past.
